Called "A Work in Progress" it features many of our artists and their work, the pictures being graphically designed by Sindy Hooper of Waitotara to create a very special portrait of each, per month.
The idea has been to showcase the many talents there are available in our small towns. All this coincided with the Connections Art Exhibition at the end of October where much of their work was on display. Please see article on Community page called "Connections" for more about the Art Exhibition.
It also promoted our entrants in the Fringe Garden Festival that ran for 10 days from the end of October and the Glass Art Studio that Jimi and Lisa Walsh work from in the main street of Waverley. In all, this has been a massive marketing drive for our towns and proved quite successful, getting good coverage over several weeks in the Wanganui Chronicle and wide interest in the events.
It now stands as a precursor to the eagerly awaited Vintage Car Rally cars that will arrive here in January 2012 where, once again the artists will have a beautiful garden forum to display their art at Willowbank Farmstay, hosted by John and Marie Deadman.
Calendar sales have been steady over the last two months to December and are continuing to prove popular. We do have more to sell and hope you will all get behind this fundraiser. At $10.00 each, these are priced to sell.
The publication costs have been covered and the first of sponsorship monies has been put towards a local contestant's costs to compete in the Cemetery Circuit run held in Wanganui on Boxing Day. Dwayne Bishop (aka Bish) a Patea Lad originally, had set his sights on this race day, to win. Unfortunately, lady luck did not favour him this year but he will be back in 2012.
Commission on sales of calendars have been gathered up for the Baptist Church, Waverley, all through the fantastic efforts of Viv Hooper.
The bulk of the funds will go to the Waverley Community Patrol which is now an independant group operating solely out of Waverley. Uniforms, signwriting and petrol costs need ongoing funding to keep this very valuable service operational. All their income will have to be sourced through the local community and charities grants and as such, we felt this was the best service with the greatest need requiring sponsorship.
